As most of you will remember the headgasket failed on my zed after being badly overheated. i have still been driving it for the past 2 months anyway but today i finally pulled the engine out. lucky for me i have a 2 post hoist and snap on tools so it makes it a bit easier.
I have taken about 100 photos throughout the removal so if amyone needs to see a pic of something in particular or measuremnets of something then let me know.

This is how i looked when i left at 5pm
I started at 9am on my own, then the young apprentice ( a different one) came to help and then my brother came just as we were taking it out. i decided to drop the box out from underneath because i wasnt sure if it could be removed with the motor. it was real easy to take out, it only took us about 15 mins to remove it! from start to finish it took us 5 hours to remove the engine/gearbox and all the goodies. i dunno if this is a good time or not , i guess it is . we decided to take the front bar and a few things like that off since ill be putting on the new AB flug bumper anyway, i forgot to get the AC degassed on friday and my auto elec doesnt work on saturdays s we pissed around to take the engine out while leaving the AC compressor and pipes still sealed up in the bay.
Once the engine was out i pulled the plenum , LH turbo+ manifolds, water pump, cambelt covers and a few other things . this took me about 90mins. then a few beers, fish and chips and home i went. _________________
with a headgasket that is not badly blowing it is difficult to see what has gone wrong. this picture iis out of focus but you should be able to see that rust colour on the headgasket ring and the top of the bore.
another hour got us here. the internals were in remarkable condition, it could have easily gone without a rebuild except for there was quite a bit of piston to bore clearance, i will measure it tomoro but at an estimate i would say its over 6 thou which is quite a bit

Well i got the word back from the machine shop that the bottom end is in perfect condtion and could do with just rings and bearings. but since it has been off the road long for a while i figure i may as well go all out, at this stage im gonna sink big money into the block, so it can take what ever i thow at it later on. Some of the things we're looking at
JE forged pistons with inverted ring placement
Forged 4340 steel rods with 7/16th ARP studs
ACL race series bearings
Total seal rings
Crack tested and nitrided crank
ARP main stud kit
Copper head gasket
On the head and manifolds,
Port and polish the head
extensive port work on the factory exhaust manifolds
Post and polish the secondary intake manifold and match to plenum
Drill and tap exhaust manifold for Nitrous jets, (for nitrous spooling)
Thats most of what will be done on the engine, i have not decided on the bolt on stuff yet, but maybe 2 KKR380's custom dumps into a twin 3 inch de-cat sytem. with 2 custom double size side mount coolers, nismo injectors, twin fuel pumps and a wolf 3d _________________
Here are the latest pics. I got stuck into this stock motor build. Got a rebuild kit for well under 1000 bucks. all good quality too. The only thing OEM i got is the headgaskets and headbolts.
I did the coolant gallery modification but i knocked the core plugs back in the rear before i took photo's , so the ones i got will have to make do.
I did the cylinder oning myself and it turned out real nice.
