|
|
Hey all,
Just pondering bout which motor would be best swap for e30's when considering hill climbs, drift, track work etc. Which would be best weight, weight distribution (how far back in the engine bay it would sit), power, availabilty, cost etc.
Ones that come to mind are:
M30
rb25, rb30
1jz
ls1 or possibly 304 (5ltr)
I was after something that hasnt been done to death, sr20, and would still be light enough, cheap enough and not to hard to install.
If you can think of any other motors feel free to post up.
cheers
Aaron

For an easy low cost swap, a CA18DET or SR20DET would be the go.
Im a fan of nissan engines and the RB series in particular, since the 20 is the cheapest and most available its a cost effective choice.
1jz would be my next choice but the do cost a bit more that the nissan motors. _________________

sr20 isnt very exciting, everybodys got one now. And im not a fan of the off boost power. Did u find out the weight differences between the m20 n rb20? I wonder how much more a 1j would be. It may end up being eaiest n cheapest to stick with wat i no and go m30 That or comodore v6... _________________ SilverBullet |

I'd have to say go for a Commodore V6, I know of 2 cars the same size (gemini & datto 1600) that had this conversion and they went very well. The commodore V6 is a torque monster and respnds well to small modifications. Also you have the advantage of many people making performance parts for these. Weight wise you would probably have a little more over the front wells which could bring a little more understeer than what you want for motorkhanas, hillclimbs etc.
Other option would be to go for the 3.2 Rodeo V6, awesome motor, unbelievably detuned for commercial use. quad cam V6 power and are lightweight compared to the Commo V6. Also there are supercharger kits readily available for good power increases.
FYI I do have a mate selling a Cammed Commodore V6 if you interested. _________________ pilot of THE RED SHARK |

Or you could go a H20A VTEC or whatever they call them, S2000 motor.
Or as Niall said a 13B, or a 20B, they are a bit pricy though.
Or a EG33 if you want to be different. Subby 3.3L Boxer 6.
Toyota 3SGTE, or 1UZFE or Nissan VH45 (my prefferance )
1J or 2J is probably the best, nice strong motors and a hell of a lot cheaper than a RB26. _________________ Having dillusional dreams of V8 Z happiness... |

go a rotor and you wont look back. BMWs just scrape in being around the right weight for one. _________________ pilot of THE RED SHARK |
