This is the start of my dastardly plan to install one of these:
Into my car:
The engine is a VH45 and here are the essential specs:
Displacment: 4.5L
Power: 206kW @ 6000rpm
Torque: 400Nm @ 4000rpm
BoreXStroke: 93x82.7mm should rev nicely
Main bearings: 6 bolt mains with one piece cradle
Crank: 90deg forged steel
Rods: Forged steel
CR: 10.2:1
Fuel: Sequential multipoint fuel injection
Throttle: 90mm with tuned length intake manifold
Valves: DOHC 4 valves per cylinder
Ignition: Direct ignition with coil on plug
Standard red line: 6900rpm
Weight: 231kg
Here is one installed in a Patrol with twin turbos fitted and running on LPG.
It makes 550hp @ 1.1bar
I'll be using the standard Z32 5 speed manual gearbox with an adaptor plate. New engine mounts will need to be made along with extractors to clear the chassis.
I'll add more when I get some time.

Its gonna be awesome. The specs of those v8's are an engine builders wet dream!
To begin with you are going to use standard management right? or a combination of the old zx loom and the new engine loom and ECU?
Cooling - If it fits will you use an engine fan or go straight to a thermo
AC - From other threads i gather you want to retain the AC. should be ok aslong as the compressor fits because therre is still a bit of room out front for a engine oil cooler too _________________

I will most probably use the standard VH management and retain the Z ecu to run the aircon and whatnot. If I turbo it I'll probably get a microtech or similar.
I already have a PWR TT twinpass radiator installed with a thermo, I might try to use the clutch fan or get a better thermo as mine runs warmer than I would like. There will be plenty of room for intercoolers and oil coolers behind the front bumper.
I would like to retain the aircon for the highway and those long drives.
The bonnet is going to require a large hole to fit that gigantic intake manifold in. Some people mod the cross member to make the engine sit lower, but I'm not comfortable with that. _________________ Having dillusional dreams of V8 Z happiness... |

hmmm. When we did the V8 conversion on my old mans ford sierra, he modified the crossmember too so the engine sits lower. The 2mm material he removed was all replaces and braced with 6.5 mm plate so he is confident that it is just as strong.
With your knowledge and contacts im sure you could have the requirements all worked out to maintain the structural integrity if you did decide to go that way.
The other option sometimes is to modify the sump. Cutting and welding a tin sump can be alot easier than option 1 or 2.
It depends how much you are talking about and if you done mind having a bonnet scoop. _________________

I may have to make a new sump anyway...
The other crossmembers that I have seen moded where about 3" lower than standard and looked like they sat too low below the car.
I quite like the idea of a big bonnet scoop _________________ Having dillusional dreams of V8 Z happiness... |

This is a picture of a VH45 getting installed into a G35 Coupe in the states. He is also going TT, but it looks like he is going with front mount turbos.
I think that I will 'borrow' his idea for the exhaust manifold as it is nice and simple, can exit at the front or the rear, which allows for front mount (or big single) turbo's if needed. I will clean up his design a bit though... It would be hopeless for a NA engine, but is perfect for a turbo.
Here is a piccy of the bloke putting it together. Shiny!
What's the car in the background? Old Corvette?
Have a look at the mounts he made, what do you think Niall?

Here are some piccies of a guy in Canada who is putting a TT VH into a 240SX (S13).
He's got front mount turbo's and a custom inlet manifold so the bonnet will shut. I may consider making a new manifold so I don't need a dirty great whole in the bonnet.
The manifold done:
Cooler piping done:
Front mount turbo's definately look like the way to go. Not the most stealthy, but certainly looks the easiest _________________ Having dillusional dreams of V8 Z happiness... |

That really is Porn, Zed porn.
Looks like an awesome engine chris. will be a fantastic project too.
As for those engine mounts, Im not an engineer but i dont like them. For a big engine with alot of power i wold do them a bit different.
The plate that bolts onto the block looks to be only 1/8 or 3/16, i would go more like 1/4 or 5/16. i think the actually rubber mount is too tall for how low the engine is sitting so it looks liek the rubber mount will be heavily loaded in one place.
i would change to a pair of v12 jaguar rubber mounts, they sit alot lower so that will change the height of the subframe mounting point to below the cenerline of the mount if you know what i mean..
Ill do a few sketched in paint and post them up
The rest of those pics look incredible, the possibilities are endless.. _________________

alright here's some drunken paint sketches for you.
For the engine mount, i would use a different mount, as i said before, the nissan mounts are big and expensive.
To make the brackets easier i would change the mounting point on the subframe to a 45 degree angle. so it looks something like this
