The J30 runs either a VG30DE 3.0 V6 or a VH41DE V8, I guess its the v8 that you plan to install.
THe best way to go about this one is to buy a half cut. it will make the conversion much easier. You will need the ECU wiring loom and all the sensore , unless you want you use a standalone managment system.
On the gearbox side. I think they all came with Auto's and i dont think the manual Z32 gearbox will bolt straight up there. it could with some sort of adaptor plate.
In short i would say. Go for it, but buy a halfcut or you're in for a world of pain. Run the auto if you are on a budget for time or money, or both!
Is there anything else you want to know? _________________

| Sorry for the lack of information. The zx is an auto. I planned on putting the six cylinder in it. I was looking on another site and that they both used the vg30de. Of course the cost for one out of a infiniti is half the cost for one out of the 300. I bought this car with a supposed head gasket problem for $800. It didn't have a battery in it so no way for me to try it out before I got it home and could use a socket on it. You already see where this is going. Needless to say I now can't find the guy. I want to put the six in it. Just hoping that I could save some money on it somewhere. I was also told that a chevrolet v8 would bolt to the tranny. any truth to that ? I really appreciate all the time and info on this. Thank you. |

Oh ok, anway i forgot to say. Hi Scott and welcome.
Yes the VG30de from the infinity is the same as a 300zx. It sounds like you got a good deal on that car. the infinity motor wil bolt up to your transmission without any trouble. you will be able to use your zx ecu and all the rest of your stuff. so all you really need is an engine complete from the sump to inlet manifold. use all your coil packs and stuff to save money too.
As for the chevy stuff i dont really know. i would not think that a chevy motor would bolt to a nissan transmission without modification but i could be wrong. _________________

There is absolutely no way that a chevy motor will bolt to your gearbox. I'll be selling my VG30DE soonish. When do you need a new engine by? I'd be chasing about $1000, but it comes with spares.
