People decide to do engine swaps for various reasons, more power is the most common one, others include more modern reliability, increased fuel ecomomy, smoother quieter engines or more torque/power for off roading.
when you thinking of doing a conversion for more power, you need to decide how much money you are willing to spend and how much power you are looking for. You should then look at why doing a convrsion is more cost effective or desireable than modifying your existing engine or turbo-charging or supercharging it.
relatively low cost and availability of high performance japanese half or front cuts has has made japanese turbo conversions quite popular especiall in european vehicles where parts are expensive and difficult to get hold of.
Before attempting any conversion or modification i would recommend talking to a mod-plate engineer, they are ususally quite helpfull and will make suer that everything is legal and SAFE.
