When doing either a forced induction upgrade or engine swap installing or keeping aircon can be a real pain in the ass. Alot of japanese engine conversion packages come with at least an aircon compressor or sometimes the entire system so the temptation is there to install it. but it can prove quite difficult and costly to have it operating effectively.

there are a few reasons why i would advise against running A/C on a modified / turbo'd engine

it takes up more space at the front where an intercooler of oil cooler could go

airflow to the radiator is restricted

sometimes the A/C pulley and belt is the furthest one out so removing the A/C pulley etc can give more radiator clearance

If you do decide to install A/C i would suggest bugeting at least 600 dollars to get the system running efficiently.
thats if your vehicle has an evapourator in the car.If it is not already fitted with AC then i would allow over 1000 dollars.

I would be wanting to retain the aircon in my Z. Is their any issues with hooking up the compressor off the new engine to the existing system? Aircon is nice for those long highway trips in summer Smile

no i dont expect there would be any issues, Doing a nissan to nissan conversion i would expect the air-con compressors are identical too.

But if possible i would advise fitting your existing compressor to the new engine because you know the condition it is in.
